Old Uphor
Old Uphor (Foundational District)
Old Uphor is the original planned district of the city, laid out in a circular or hexagonal formation inspired by early utopian design models. The layout was precise and intentional: geometric streets, mixed-use blocks, walkable pathways, and integrated green belts. It was meant to serve as a proof of concept: a city designed to be lived in intelligently.
For its age, the district remained remarkably intact after the collapse. Along with sections of the bunker network and former military housing, it was one of the first areas to be reinhabited during the city’s recovery. Many of the buildings only needed light reinforcement, and the street structure was still usable. It offered familiarity and stability when the rest of the city was still in crisis.
At the district’s center lies the Crater, a cultural zone built around exposed pre-collapse structures.
The Crater has its own entry here.
Today, Old Uphor is primarily residential. Some original buildings are still in use, while others have been updated or expanded. The old geometry is still clearly visible from above, radial streets, segmented divisions, and long-standing green corridors that help people orient themselves.
The district tends to attract academics, civil planners, policy-oriented residents, and increasingly, young families looking for something stable but still central. It’s considered one of the more desirable places to live, well-organized, well-connected, and nearly impossible to move into unless you’ve got the right job or the right connections. Residents are usually active in the community, with long-running neighborhood committees and a pride in keeping things well-managed. It’s not as tightly regulated as Palitra, but there’s still an expectation that people contribute and uphold a certain standard.
Local streetcar lines run along both its inner and outer edges, forming a loop that connects nearby neighborhoods and cultural zones. A major transit hub, located at the southern edge of the Crater — serves as one of Uphor’s central interchange points, linking street-level transit with faster, city-spanning NEX lines.
