Sector A (Agricultural Buildings/The Barracks)
Sector A is RW’s main agricultural zone, a collection of massive, hangar-like structures located within the Edge Sectors. The vertical farms here use realWater-fed systems and cutting-edge environmental controls to grow large volumes of fresh produce. Rows of crops hang from rotating rigs under a wash of pinkish-red and blue grow lights, casting a dim neon glow over the work areas. Despite its sterile exterior, the interior has a unique and vibrant rhythm.
The barracks are fully furnished but communal: shared kitchens, bathrooms, and dorm-style sleeping areas
The people who come here, mostly on 4- to 8-month contracts, live in shared housing and follow a structured, collective routine. Everyone eats together, works together, rests together. Personal space is limited but respected. Recreational areas are mostly indoors, though a few dust-proofed outdoor zones exist. Automated kitchens are available, but most residents prefer to cook together. Having access to the city’s freshest produce certainly helps. There’s a culture here, a blend of camaraderie and routine.
Those who enjoy this rhythm often come back again and again. Dubbed “barrack people” a semi-affectionate term for workers who thrive in the structure and emotional community of the sector, but who often feel a little out of place when returning to the city.
The farms operate around the clock, but the environment is emotionally more sustainable than other edge zones. Work Is intense but not isolating. And while no one talks about it too much, it’s understood that most of Uphor’s produce comes from here, though RW doesn’t exactly advertise that fact.
